What do people think of corporate yoga classes? Do they work? Are they effective? Does anyone turn up? Well i have both taught corporate yoga classes and have also been a student, and while I may be biased, I personally believe they are very effective and have found them to be popular.
Corporate yoga helps businesses save time and money by reducing staff turnover, absenteeism, illness and stress levels. The yoga classes don’t make stress disappear but they do help people manage their reactions to stress more effectively. Students of corporate yoga often comment on improved powers of concentration, greater clarity of mind, better decision making and improved productivity, as well as a deeper sense of health and wellbeing.
Corporate yoga classes work best over a period of time, say 4 – 10 weeks and generally 1 – 2 classes per week, although more corporates are running corporate yoga classes at staff conferences or retreats as well as regular weekly classes. Programs can be tailored and priced according to the client’s needs.
Corporate yoga classes have been known to help with the following:
- Physical, mental and emotional health;
- Stress management;
- Relaxation skills;
- Concentration and clarity of mind;
- Clear perception and decision making;
- Personal productivity;
Corporate yoga classes use techniques such as:
- Stretching and holding poses (Asana);
- Breathing exercises (Pranayama);
- Relaxation (Yoga Nidra); and
- Meditation and visualisation techniques;
There are many more benefits to participating in a corporate yoga class than I have listed here and it is also a very personal experience. What one person may experience in a class may be very different from what another experiences. And they are both right.
I would be interested to hear your thoughts if you have taken part in a corporate yoga class. What did you think ? And if you haven’t yet taken part in a corporate yoga class, what are you waiting for ?
